Hop ‘n' Pop is a colourful, farm-themed online slot from Hacksaw Gaming. While it did hit the iGaming market back in June 2021, it’s still quite popular among UK slot aficionados.
Aside from high-quality visuals, Hop ‘n' Pop's main selling point is the progressive multipliers that can generate wins as big as 12,500x the stake in the free spins round. The slot has a garden-variety RTP of 96.20%, while its volatility is high (no surprises there given the max win potential).

Gameplay
Hop ‘n' Pop is played out on a 7×7 grid and uses a cluster pays win system instead of traditional paylines. On any given spin, 49 food symbols will appear on the layout. Winning combinations are formed when five matching symbols land adjacently on the reels, either horizontally or vertically.
The associated fruits/vegetables burst from the grid in a cluster, making space for new symbols. This cycle continues until no more clusters are formed. Betting options range from 20p to £100, with plenty of choices in between.
The symbols that pay the least are blueberries, grapes, eggplants, and carrots. These will deliver payouts in the 0.10x–20x range for a cluster of 15+ symbols. Strawberry is the top-paying symbol — 15 of them in a cluster will award you a payout worth 80x your stake.
The game also has a wild, which only appears during the free spins sequence. Plus, random multipliers will pop up, but we'll discuss them in greater detail in the following segment.
Hop ‘n' Pop is a highly volatile slot, so you’ll need a larger budget to ride out the dry spells.
Hop ‘n' Pop Bonus Features
Hop ‘n' Pop isn’t as feature-heavy as some other releases from Hacksaw Gaming. It does, however, offer a starter pack of wilds, multipliers, and free spins.
Let’s tackle each of these interactive features separately:
Wilds
It appears only during the free spins round and substitutes for all symbols except the scatter. These include both high and low-paying ones.
Multipliers
As soon as you start spinning the reels with Hop ‘n' Pop, you’ll notice a wandering 2x multiplier. Upon each spin, it will stick to a random symbol. If that symbol is a part of the winning cluster, the winning combo is multiplied by the displayed value. The multiplier will then either double in size or split into two multipliers and leap to a new position. Multipliers that appear on a cluster simultaneously will add their values together before being applied to the winning combination. Up to four multiplier icons may appear at the same time on a given spin, with multiplier values reaching 64x.
Free spins
Landing three or more scatters will award you ten free spins. Depending on how many scatters were used to trigger the free spins round, you’ll get a varying number of multipliers with different base values. For three scatters, you’ll get one multiplier that has a 2x base value. With five, there will be four multipliers, each with a 4x base value.
Bonus buy
It’s also possible to pay a premium for instant free spins activation. The price ranges between 100x and 400x, based on whether you want the bonus round with three, four, or five scatters. Note that this feature has been banned in the UK.
What Is the Return to Player of Hop ‘n' Pop?
Hop ‘n' Pop has a fixed RTP of 96.20%, which clocks at the industry standard. This is the only RTP value offered for this game. Interestingly enough, the Return to Player rate doesn’t increase during the purchased free spins round, as is usually the case.
What Do We Think of This Slot?
Hop ‘n' Pop resembles King Carrot in many ways, although it's not as action-packed. Simple gameplay will certainly appeal to casual players. The RTP, volatility, and payout potential hit all the right notes, but ultimately, the game lacks the excitement of some of the provider’s other releases. Lacklustre symbol values are also a weakness, although Hop ‘n' Pop makes amends with progressive multipliers. Our overall rating is three stars.
